Using data to make decisions can be disastrous without checking the quality of the data first. A data profiling tool can be used to help perform a data quality assessment and provide tangible evidence to support a business case for pro-active data quality. Presenting the results to business executives without losing their attention can be a bigger challenge than the actual profiling. Selecting the right data value outliers is sometimes the best approach. Categorizing all the outliers can also provide the following metrics that are easy to understand and present to management:
\n
Issue Counts by Subject Area
\n
Issue Severity Level
\n
Issue Root Cause
\n
Issue Remediation Strategy

\nThis session will cover an actual study done at Erie Insurance Group which was convincing enough to management that they decided to create a Data Quality area in the company.
